ETEC 533 | TECHNOLOGY IN THE MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE CLASSROOM (ELECTIVE COURSE)

A glacial valley that transforms and inspires the way a geological landscape (i.e. learning) can be climbed. Whilst its challenges could be viewed as solely technical, it leaves one with many universal skills to be applied elsewhere.

Even if math and science are not your strongest or most passionate subject areas, this course should not be missed. I took this course as my seventh in the program, yet its learning would have a valuable fit if taken earlier as well.

One of the first reasons that this elective course is a must, is that it introduces you to one of the most practical reads to any educator at large, Bransford, Brown, & Cocking's (2000), How people learn. This volume of literature stresses the importance of establishing prior knowledge, promoting effective transfer of learning, using balanced formative assessment and how important it is for teachers modelling lifelong learning themselves. This list is by no means exhaustive.

The course also gave me plenty of opportunities for further social construction of knowledge through a fun jigsaw video creation activity, and the design of a tutorial for one of my favorite digital learning applications, Explain Everything.
