UBC - MET

Transforming pedagogical landscapes through mountains of knowledge

Purpose

The purpose of this ePortfolio is, for the short-term, to satisfy the requirements necessary to complete the University of British Columbia Master of Educational Technology (UBC-MET) program. This ePortfolio will also meet the standards for a “capstone experience” for the Teacher Qualification Service (TQS) in British Columbia. However, the longer-term purpose for this ePortfolio will be a place to showcase my synthesized learning, metacognition and reflections learned both inside and out of the program. It shall elucidate how I have, and continue to, integrate educational technologies into my pedagogy, those framed with theoretical knowledge learned within the MET program.

Audience

This portfolio is not exclusive, yet would be most attractive to educators interested in lifelong learning. These include UBC-MET faculty and students both old and new, as well as fellow colleagues, administrators and prospective employers.

In addition, I'd like to dedicate this ePortfolio to my family, friends and colleagues. Their support and sacrifices were an important part of this journey.

Metaphor

This ePortfolio is framed in a geological, mountainous metaphor linking the learning in the UBC-MET program to a transformational change of the landscape in my pedagogical philosophy.

I chose this example because mountains represent the balance to my love of digital technologies. They are a place where I can “turn off” from the (majority of) digital tech in my life and de-stress. Like learning, they are a place for motivation, metacognition and reflection.

After getting acquainted with this section on Level Ground, be prepared to be shaken up in Tectonic Shifts. Afterwards, traverse smoothly through Glacial Carvings. Perhaps ponder which Expeditionary Tools may be useful on your next expedition before settling upon the Reflective Deposition.
